”Junior back-end developer e-course” is an adult retraining program, designed to provide participants the basic skills of a back-end developer.
PROJECT ACTIVITIES
Altogether, 100 people are trained within 3 courses during the project.
The length of one course is 5 months (20 weeks). All the course activities are fully online. The study volume of one course is 450 academic hours, which includes independent learning, e-learning, interactive lectures, practical exercises and assignments, watching and working through videos, meetings with lecturers and mentors, etc.
Eight e-learning modules are to be completed within the course. After the successful completion of the modules, participants have a comprehensive understanding of the basic concepts of software development, as well as an overview of the software development process and life cycle. The e-learning modules are in English.
Learning support from lecturers and mentors is a crucial part of the program. Meetings with lecturers and mentors are held via e-channels in Estonian.
REQUIREMENTS FOR PARTICIPATION
The project participant must be over the age of 21, currently employed and not studying. The suitable candidate:
- has obtained secondary education, is not currently obtaining formal (level) education and does not have an education in the IT field
- has at least 3 years of previous work experience in any field, except IT
- is proficient in English and Estonian at a level that allows them to understand learning materials, learn independently and clearly formulate their thoughts (English at least level B1, Estonian at least level B2)
- has a strong interest in the IT industry and a desire to start working in the IT sector
LOCATION
All the project activities are fully remote.
APPLICATION PROCESS

The application process consists of 4 stages:
Stage I – Review of the submitted applications and primary selection of candidates based on submitted application forms – verification of compliance with the project requirements and assessment of motivation.
Stage II – The candidates selected to this stage based on their application are invited to the Spatial Ability Test (Tripod RVS). The test is carried out online (the test lasts about 1 hour). The minimum requirement for passing the test is 40-50% of total spatial ability level.
Stage III – Interview with the candidate in English.
Stage IV – Final selection of candidates is made based on their profiles, test scores and interviews. Notifying candidates of the selection results by e-mail.
A joint online meeting is organized for the group before starting the studies, where the curriculum, course content and schedule are introduced.

In the case of dropping out during the course a cancellation fee of 1 200 eur (+ VAT) may be implemented.
Junior back-end developer e-course project is organized by BCS Koolitus AS in cooperation with the Estonian Ministry of Economic Affairs and Communications. The project is funded through the European Social Fund grant scheme “Enhancing Digital Literacy”.
